What happens when our trash becomes part of nature?

Pop Art Trash explores a disturbing reality found along our coastlines: hermit crabs adapting to human waste and using discarded objects as shelter.

In this original woodcut, a hermit crab carries a piece of human waste as if it were its natural shell. At first, the image feels colorful, playful and almost surreal. But behind it lies an uncomfortable contradiction:

Nature is adapting to something that was never meant to be part of it.

Inspired by the bold visual language of Pop Art, I transformed an everyday object of consumption and waste into part of the animal itself. The vibrant colors attract the eye, while the image gradually reveals a deeper message about ocean pollution and our relationship with the natural world.

Plastic, cans and other human debris travel through ocean currents and eventually reach beaches, reefs and fragile marine ecosystems. Wildlife is increasingly forced to coexist with the traces of our consumption.

Pop Art Trash is about adaptation, but also about responsibility.

Nature finds ways to survive our impact — but it shouldn't have to.
