Áurea was born from my time in Amritsar, India, and an experience at the Golden Temple that stayed with me long after I left.
I arrived fascinated by its architecture and extraordinary golden light, but what I encountered went far beyond its visual beauty.
Before sunrise, prayers and chants filled the temple complex as thousands of people quietly moved toward the sanctuary. As morning emerged, the sky seemed to merge with the golden reflections of the temple across the water.
I also discovered the langar, the communal kitchen where volunteers prepare and serve free meals to thousands of people, regardless of background, status, or belief. That sense of generosity, equality, and human connection deeply shaped my experience of the place.
From a quiet corner of the complex, I began sketching the people around me—their gestures, moments of prayer, and expressions of contemplation.
Those memories eventually became Áurea.
The closed eyes suggest a moment of inward reflection, while layers of orange, earthy pigments, and golden accents evoke the warmth of India and the luminous atmosphere surrounding the Golden Temple.
Rather than portraying a specific person, I wanted to capture a state of mind: the moment when the outside world grows quiet and the journey inward begins.
Áurea is a one-of-a-kind contemporary painting exploring spirituality, introspection, and human connection.
